A day with Chef Jade De Waal is no ordinary thing. Known as the quirkiest and most charming contestant on SA MasterChef Jade De Waal is making an impact on South African foodie scene and warming the hearts of all those she meets. Your experience will start with visit to the Oranjezicht city firm and the secret spots of Jade where she gets all her local and sustainable ingredients. You will also discover Jade’s favourite hidden corners while you are shopping in Cape Town.
The Oranjezicht City Farm (OZCF) is a non-profit project celebrating local food, culture and community through urban farming in Cape Town, and the place to be on a Saturday and Sunday morning.
Jade is a 27 year old food jammer and saxophonist born and raised in Cape Town.
She started Food Jams in 2010 in a bid to teach her friends how to cook – based on music, and now uses it as a way of meeting and hosting people, whilst having a party and learning about food and context at the same time.
Besides writing 3 cookbooks before the age of 25, she has hosted an online cooking show with friends, and makes up one third of In Foreign Transit, a South African film, food and photo collective taking other countries by storm. In 2010 South Africa got to know her as the ‘one with the crazy energy and quirky accent’ on the first season of Masterchef South Africa.
She learnt food from her family, who, when together, are always in the kitchen. She can’t wait to jam with you.
